Junior Rugby teams from Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s Ambassador Clubs will be returning to the Leeds Rugby Academy this Sunday 23rd August for the annual Dick Gibson Ambassador Festival of Rugby sponsored by Charlie Brett’s Restaurant.
The festival organised with the support of the Leeds Rhinos Foundation, will see over 60 teams attend the day long festival that will be buoyed once again by the appearance of Leeds Rhinos players Jamie Peacock, Mitch Achurch, Brad Singleton, Mitch Garbutt, Kylie Leuluai, Stevie Ward, Robbie Ward, Ash Handley, Jordan Lilley, Robbie Mulhern and Jamie Jones-Buchanan.
Rugby AM will support the festival again 2015 with a staging area for the event which will see age groups from under 7s to 11s involved in small sided rugby fixtures throughout the day.
The event is sponsored by the family of Dick Gibson and Charlie Brett’s Fish restaurant in Headingley, who will provide every one of the 700 children involved a free meal on the day.
Community Clubs Development Officer for the Leeds Rhinos Foundation Sam Horner, who has helped organised the tournament with representatives from the Community Club Ambassador Scheme over the past few months commented:
“It’s vital that we keep tournaments like the Dick Gibson Ambassador Festival going as it provides a really memorable day for so many children across Leeds every year, and thanks to the support of the Dick Gibson family sponsoring the event this year through Charlie Brett’s Restaurant, we have been able to extend the numbers of teams playing, making it an even bigger spectacle in 2015.
“We have a very strong relationship with the community clubs across Leeds who form the backbone of grass roots Rugby, with many of the current Leeds Rhinos first team coming from the clubs we will see next Sunday, so we are encouraging fans of Rugby League to come down and show their support for the next generation of Rugby League players.”
Fans are invited to come along and enjoy the festival. Entry is 50p with all money going back into Community Clubs.
