Leeds-born football star James Milner has become the latest high profile sportsperson from the city to lend his support to the Leeds Rhinos Foundation as Vice President.
Milner, who grew up in Horsforth and has been capped 61 times for England joins a growing list of sportspeople supporting Leeds Rhinos’ official charity, including Kevin Sinfield MBE, Josh Warrington, Ryan Sidebottom and Jonny Brownlee.
Speaking about coming on board as a Vice President, Milner said: “I am delighted to become a Vice-President of the Leeds Rhinos Foundation. I have my own Foundation that is partnering with the Rhinos to deliver opportunities and education in sport to local youngsters. I hope that my role with the Leeds Rhinos Foundation will help to engage other local children to take up, and use sport as a positive factor in their lives as it has in mine.”
The former Leeds United player established his own charity foundation in 2012 which promotes healthy recreation for the benefit of young people across the United Kingdom through the provision of opportunities in sports such as football, rugby and cricket.
Neil Kaiper-Holmes, Chairman at Leeds Rhinos Foundation said: “I am thrilled that Leeds born, England international James Milner has agreed to join our illustrious group of Vice-Presidents. With Rugby League, Rugby Union, triathlon, running, cricket, boxing and now football represented in addition to politics, music and theatre on our panel, we can say that we truly live up to our motto to ‘Change Lives Through Sport’.”
