England Football manager Gareth Southgate has given his backing to Leeds Rhinos Foundation Director of Operations, Bob Bowman, ahead of his epic marathon challenge for Leeds Rhinos Foundation.
Southgate was guest of the charity at the recent Betfred Super League fixture between Leeds Rhinos and Huddersfield Giants and it was an opportunity for the England manager to hear about the work the charity deliver and Bowman's upcoming charity challenge.
Bowman, who is looking to raise £25,000 in support of the charity he oversees as Director of Operations, is just 10 days away from his momentous challenge of 15 marathons across 15 days and received a timely boost from the former Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Middlesbrough defender, who is giving him his backing.
Southgate commented: "What Bob Bowman is taking on is a massive challenge which I am sure he will complete. He is raising money for a great cause whereby more young people will be offered the opportunities to be the best they can be, raise their aspirations and lead more active and healthy lifestyles. Truly changing lives through Sport. Good luck Bob".
The 15 in 15 Challenge will be the start of a new partnership between Leeds Rhinos Foundation and youth charity Brathay Trust, which will see the two charities work together to help hundreds of young people who are in difficulty turn their lives around.
Initially, Bowman will join fellow fundraisers taking on the Brathay 10 in 10 running event, that involves runners completing 10 marathons over 10 consecutive days around England's longest lake, Windermere.
Although the 10 in 10 has been described as the 'UK's ultimate endurance running event' Bowman has decided to test his stamina even further and will keep on his running shoes for another five days to complete an additional five marathons finishing at the Leeds Rhinos vs Warrington Wolves game on 26th May.
