This week, the journey to the 2026 North v South Series officially began, with players and coaches invited to two welcome evenings at Leeds Beckett University.
The North v South Series, in partnership with RAM films, was relaunched in 2022 with Hunslet RLFC to give young players the chance to represent their city in a two match series between the North v South.
First up the players will take part in a six-week development programme which is fully aligned to the Rhinos Talent Pathway before they play competitive fixtures at AMT Headingley and South Leeds Stadium.
The night saw Rhinos legends Danny McGuire and Jamie Jones-Buchanan speak to the players and parents about their commitment to growing the game and their pride for playing for their hometown club.
Staff from Leeds Rhinos Foundation spoke about what to expect from being part of the North v South Series and Phil Hodgson from Hunslet RLFC gave a presentation about the opportunities that playing Rugby League gave people and a chance to be the best version of themselves they could be.
Craig Shepherd, Rugby League Development Officer for Leeds Rhinos Foundation, said: “Having previously coached on the North v South series as a volunteer, before getting my job with the charity, I know personally how much being involved can help with coach and player development.
“I saw players who featured in the series go onto earn places in the Rhinos squad and even form friendships through it. Every Rhinos match night I see a group of lads who played on the series and now come to the games together, so it’s a really positive thing to be involved in.
“We are also proud to be working alongside Hunslet and re-igniting historic rivalry between the north and south of the city. Both clubs are passionate about growing our sport and although there may be rivalry on the field it is great to see us working collaboratively for the good of the game and to develop the next generation of players.
“To every player selected we hope you enjoy every moment, embrace the challenge, and be proud of the badge you represent.
“A huge thank you to our partners RAM Films and everyone who attended the launch and we look forward to another unforgettable North v South Series.”
The games will take place on in August at South Leeds Stadium and AMT Headingley.
