On 11th May, 37 runners took part in the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon and Half Marathon to support Leeds Rhinos Foundation. Together, they raised an amazing £23,155 to help us continue changing lives through the power of sport by supporting people living with long-term health conditions, disabilities, and others who may need extra support to live active, fulfilling lives.
The team had access to a variety of events to support their journey: from a group training run with Jamie Jones-Buchanan MBE to a pre-race pasta party, and a celebration at AMT Headingley Stadium during the Leeds Rhinos vs Hull FC game.
Leeds Rhinos Foundation CEO, Bob Bowman, said: “Our runners have done an outstanding job in both their individual challenges and fundraising efforts. I know how much time and commitment this takes and to achieve all of this during tough financial times makes it even more special. A big thank you goes to Team Captain Lindsey, who led by example, completing two marathons in two weeks and raising a huge amount for charity.
“The money raised is vital to our work in the community. Our latest Substance Impact Report showed that for every £1 invested in Leeds Rhinos Foundation, £14 of social value is generated, meaning that the money raised will reach much further than the amount seen.”
Leeds Rhinos Foundation is proud of every single runner and supporter. While we can’t highlight every story, here are a few special mentions.
Lindsey Burrow completed both the London Marathon and the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon just one week apart, raising an extraordinary £19,373 split between Leeds Rhinos Foundation and Leeds Hospitals Charity.
Kevin Eaglestone, running his third Rob Burrow Marathon in as many years, raised just under £1,750 this year—bringing his total to nearly £3,000 for MNDA and the Rob Burrow Centre for MND. He’s also consistently run sub-3:20 marathons, which is no small feat.
Paul Brennan returned after raising £1,500 in 2024 and topped that this year with over £1,700—bringing his phenomenal total to £3,269 raised for the Foundation across both events.
Jessica Mayho, Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s very own Business Development Manager, took on the Leeds Half Marathon as her first distance running challenge since retiring from professional hammer throwing. She completed it with style, raising over £750.
Nuffield Health Leeds joined forces with a team of six runners taking on the Half Marathon, raising over £1,300 collectively.
Declan Jenkinson, a player for the Leeds Rhinos Foundation Learning Disability Super League players, made huge progress by taking nearly 30 minutes off his previous marathon time.
Graham Holroyd completed an ultra-marathon, the Manchester Marathon, and the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon as part of an impressive endurance challenge.
Rachel Wood became our third-highest fundraiser with £1,500 raised, and Lisa Hard—a valued member of the Fordy Run club—raised just under £800 in her Half Marathon effort.
