900 Children and parents from ambassador schools to attend Wigan fixture

Some schools in action at the recent home fixture against Huddersfield Giant

The Leeds Rhinos Foundation are set to provide their biggest total of school children attending a match day this season, with over 900 children from schools in the Leeds and wider area in attendance for the Leeds Rhinos home fixture against Wigan Warriors tomorrow night.

The Leeds Rhinos game against the Wigan Warriors tomorrow night is set to be one of the biggest games of the season for the Rhinos, reflected not only in the fixture pitting two of Super League's most successful sides but in the number of school groups who will be in attendance all organised by the Leeds Rhinos Foundation.

The game will see over 900 people from 9 Ambassador Schools attending, demonstrating the reach of the Leeds Rhinos Foundation and the opportunities it is providing for young people and their families.

The pre match activities will be an all Roundhay affair with Roundhay Girls and Roundhay Primary taking centre stage for the Guard of Honour and Flag Bearing duties.

There are no less than 270 children taking part in the Half Time Parade, which is part of the Day to Remember programme. Sponsored by Caddick Construction, this initiative will have seen all of these children take part in activities in school and will tomorrow be in the limelight for one of the biggest fixtures in Super League.

The Ambassador Schools are not just limited to Leeds and tomorrow will also see the visit of Cockermouth School, as part of their School Sports Tour.

Matthew Woodcock, PE teacher, Cockermouth School, said:

“Our sports tour is now in its twelfth year and this is our second visit to Leeds Rhinos.  West Cumbria is a rugby league stronghold and so students and teachers are looking forward to a fantastic game tonight. As a Rhinos fan, I have done my best to encourage all of my students to support Leeds but there are a few Wigan supporters amongst our group! It’s sure to be an evening full of competitive fun for us all. I’d like to thank the Leeds Rhinos Foundation and staff for their help in planning our visit.”

The revamped Schools Ambassador Scheme is so far proving a success and Lisa McCann, School Ambassador Manager said,

“I am really pleased that we have engaged with so many schools for this game, it promises to be a fantastic game and hopefully will be the start of the Rhinos journey for many of the children attending tonight.
