Leeds Rhinos Wheelchair Rugby League star, James Simpson, has been named as a finalist at the 2019 Soldering On Awards and needs your vote to help him win!Simpson, who was recently crowned Disability Sportsman of the Year at the Leeds Sports Awards, is now in the running to win the Thales People’s Choice Award, which is given in recognition of a person or group that has provided a significant contribution in support of the Armed Forces Community.
A former Army soldier, Simpson, who captained the Rhinos’ Wheelchair Rugby League side to Grand Final success in 2018, says that winning this award would mean a great deal to him.
He said: “It recognises soldiers who have left and moved on away from the military.
“It shows how far I have come as well. From being in the Army to now at this stage of my life where I’m now working as an ambassador for the 2021 Rugby League World Cup and captain of the Leeds Rhinos Wheelchair team, which is still a huge honour.
“It’s quite a big deal for me to know I’ve been nominated for an award to show how far my journey has led me and how far I have come. It would be fantastic if the Leeds Rhinos family could play their part and vote for me.”
The awards ceremony takes place at London’s Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel on Friday, 5th April and aims to show support for the Armed Forces Community by celebrating the achievements of the people, teams and businesses within it.
