Youngsters enjoy experience at Rhinos Player Development Days

Leeds Rhinos Foundation recently hosted two successful U12s and U13s Player Development Days at Leeds Rugby Academy, delivered as part of the England RL Talent Pathway programme.

The sessions, which were led by Leeds Rhinos Scholarship coaches, gave junior players the opportunity to experience training in a professional rugby environment and improve their core skills through a series of different drills, both out on the training field and in the Rhinos’ state-of-the-art ruck room. These focused on a number of different areas, including defensive contact, hand-eye co-ordination, speed, agility, attacking kicks and try scoring.

Across the two days, over 180 children were in attendance, with each participant also receiving a free match ticket to a Leeds Rhinos home game at Emerald Headingley Stadium.

Ian Hardman, Rugby League Development Manager, said: “We’ve got some fantastic facilities here at Leeds, so it’s great that we can invite community club players in at this age to have a look around and make use of them, also to tap into the experience of the coaches we’ve got working for our Foundation and Scholarship programme.”

“It’s a great part of our job being able to give back to the game and develop young players. They’re like sponges at the minute so anything we give them, they put 100% into it and take it onboard. Anything we can do to help them improve is more than welcome.”
