Healthy Places Project – Working with Community Clubs

The Healthy Places Project, delivered by the Leeds Rhinos Foundation in partnership with Public Health England, supports rugby league and rugby union community clubs across Leeds to create environments where healthier choices are the easy choices.
Rugby league and rugby union clubs are at the heart of their neighbourhoods. They bring together players, families, volunteers and supporters every week. Clubs provide opportunities to play sport, safe spaces for young people, positive role models and a strong sense of belonging. Through Healthy Places, we work alongside clubs to strengthen this impact by promoting better nutrition and smoke and vape free sidelines.

Clubs that sign up commit to three simple actions:

In return, clubs receive funding, equipment, signage, resources, ongoing support and recognition for their efforts. The project is designed to be practical and achievable, focusing on small, realistic changes that can make a big difference over time. This could include introducing healthier food options, promoting water instead of sugary drinks, or reinforcing positive sideline behaviours.
By working together, we can help shape healthier habits for young people, families and communities across the city.
