This International Women’s Day, why not get involved with one of the fastest growing sports in Leeds by joining a local Women or Girls Rugby League team?
Since 2017, women and girls across Leeds have been proving that ‘This Girl Can’, with an increasing number of females taking part in rugby league across the city and Leeds Rhinos Women enjoying huge success, securing back-to-back Challenge Cup triumphs and winning the Women’s Super League in 2019.
Leeds Rhinos Foundation have also backed the campaign, through their Rugby League Development Plan, supported by Mears and the Sky Try programme, and continue to work with clubs and schools across the city and beyond to create more opportunities for women and girls to play rugby league.
With International Women’s Day 2020 taking place this Sunday 8th March and the grassroots game entering into a new season, Leeds Rhinos Women Head Coach Lois Forsell believes there is no better time to take up the sport at one of the charity’s Ambassador community clubs.
“It’s a very exciting time for Women and Girls Rugby League, because there are now more opportunities than ever before for girls to excel in rugby league and progress through the pathway to represent their city, county and country in the future,” said Forsell, who also works as Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s Women and Girls Rugby League Development Officer.
“We are an inclusive sport which has a place for everyone to be involved in the game. At Leeds Rhinos Foundation, we are proud to be ambassadors for the Women and Girls game across the city and work with the amazing community clubs who provide opportunities for girls to join a team and develop week in, week out, before hopefully going on to perform at the highest level.
“If you are looking for a sport to get involved in I would fully recommend giving Rugby League a go. It teaches disciplines such as teamwork, respect and sportsmanship, builds your confidence and is a brilliant way to stay fit and active.”
