Leeds Rhinos Foundation's men's weight management programme Try Club has new dates for 2019 as the charity encourages more men in Leeds to get fit.
Run in partnership with Leeds Public Health, the free 12 week course will take place in the new community room at Emerald Headingley Stadium from 6-7.30pm. The weekly sessions combine exercise with classroom activities and on completion of the course, all attendees should feel educated, motivated and committed to getting healthy and staying fit.

179 men attended the course last year, with 91% reducing their weight by over 3%. Many of the Try Club graduates have spoken about the positive impact that Try Club has had on their lifestyles.

Russell Walker completed a Try Club course last year and highlighted that it was more than a regular exercise session to him.

"I joined the course because I wanted to be more active in a friendly, helpful place, which the Try Club is" said Walker. "It's a very friendly place, brilliantly run by the staff and I really enjoyed the twelve week course. I came in to the course at 150kg and on completion, I had lost over 4kg which doesn't sound like a lot but it's the lifestyle changes that come with it. I've been able to set life goals of eat healthily and keep active, all things promoted by the Try Club.

"I'd say definitely go for it because it can offer so much, I'd fully recommend it to anyone."

Laura Buckle, Leeds Rhinos Foundation's health improvement officer, said " Last year, adult obesity levels were at 26%, putting the UK sixth highest in the world so this is a huge issue that we are proud to work with Leeds Public Health to help tackle. We are excited to be launching another Try Club this January. After the success of previous programmes, its always great to see so many men across the city coming together yet again to achieve their health goals. We are here to support, guide and advise people through the nightmare that can be dieting and weight loss particularly at this time of year.

"I'm looking forward to this year's courses and urge any male that wants to get fitter, healthier and lose a bit of weight, regardless of injury, long term condition or fitness level to join Try Club."
