Leeds Rhinos Women's team have captured their first big signing with the announcement that two-time Grand Final winner Adam Cuthbertson will be taking up the reigns as Head Coach of the team for the 2018 season.
Cuthbertson, who joined the Rhinos in 2015 before going on to the win the treble in his first season with the club will take up the role in time for pre-season as Leeds Rhinos Women's team embark on their first season in Women's Super League in April 2018.

Speaking about his new appointment Cuthbertson said: "It's going to be one of my first experiences of coaching full-time which should be great. It's good to see girls getting involved at Leeds and having the opportunity to be part of the first Leeds Rhinos Women's Rugby League team."

The 32-year-old has previous coaching experience working with the Leeds Rhinos Foundation's coach education programme, and also in his native Australia, where the NRL backed Jillaroos have been receiving national attention alongside a groundswell of participation at club level since 2013, something he hopes will provide a blueprint for the women's game in the UK.

"The women's game has grown over in Australia with the NRL's backing, which has helped create a bit more attention and seen a lot more people wanting to get involved. The NRL has got their own competition which has proven to be very successful," said Cuthbertson.

A fan-favourite at Emerald Headingley Stadium, Cuthbertson has backed up his match winning performances on the pitch with support for the community game as a regular inspiration to young players in Leeds with his support of Leeds Rhinos Foundation's delivery in schools and clubs.

"I really enjoy coaching. I did a bit back in Australia and we do a lot of promotional stuff at the Rhinos where we go into schools and clubs and teach the game of Rugby League, so it's a great opportunity to build on that and get on board now with hopefully a very successful campaign with the Women's team."

Leeds Rhinos Foundation Rugby League Development Plan Manager Leon Crick said:

"He has shown a keen interest in getting more involved with the new team and we felt he was an ideal candidate for the job. When I approached him about heading up the new Rhinos team he jumped at the chance. He'll be a fantastic head coach and is the first cog in a really exciting project for us."

With the squad announcement due to be announced on the 11th December, Cuthbertson said he is excited to get started and looking forward to his first coaching assignment with the club in 2018.

"It's going to be big, obviously it will be difficult to juggle if I'm playing on the same night but hopefully I have got some good staff and some great players around me. We had a great set of trials and there have been some really outstanding numbers that have been involved already, so hopefully we get a good team together and we can put on a good show in the 2018 season," he added.
