THE EATWELL PLATE

The Eatwell plate shows the different types of foods that should make up our diet and the proportion of food from each group that make up a healthy balanced diet.

Eating healthy is about getting a mix of foods and meeting your energy needs. In the United Kingdom the majority of adults are either overweight or obese. This means many of us are eating or drinking too much and need to reduce this to lose weight.

FAT FACTS

Fat plays an important role in a healthy diet but it's important to understand what fats to avoid and how you can cut back on the amount of fat in your diet.

Good fats help your body absorb vitamins and minerals as well as reducing cholesterol. Foods like oily fish, nuts and seeds and avocados are all examples of foods that contain healthy fats.

Bad fats like saturated and trans-fats clog up our arteries and can lead to heart disease and cancers. These are regularly found in some processed foods, biscuits, sweets and takeaways.
